Scaling Smarter Summit Recap
During the week of June 18 through 22, Boomsourcing held our first-ever Scaling Smarter Summit. Our goal was to provide a unique and fun way to help our clients (and ourselves) to learn more about the specific strategies that could make our companies most successful. We did this by inviting industry experts to join us all for a series of outdoor activities illustrating the strategies that they’d teach us about.
We had a lot of fun doing this, just as we’d hoped! Along with the local Utah crowd, some of our clients from Florida, Alabama, and Kansas came out to join us. We all had a blast (or a BOOM?), and we learned a lot from each other.
MONDAY – Partner In Success
The first day of the summit, we started out with golfing at Thanksgiving Point. Golf is a great game for friends, because even though it’s a competition, it’s more about doing our own personal best, rather than merely defeating an opponent. It’s a game that requires skill, strategy, and concentration. It’s always great to be able to play it with someone you can trust, and who’s just as happy to see you succeed as they are for themselves. Good business partnerships and even competition between companies in the same market can be like that.
TUESDAY – Make Your Sales Feel Down Hill
Next, we hopped over the mountains to the base of Park City, where we tried some downhill mountain biking. We compared this activity to the way sales could work with the right strategy. Oftentimes sales can feel like trying to push your bicycle uphill, forever. In this case, the ski lifts did the hard part, and let us enjoy the ride. Gravity became our friend! With an effective team of Sales Development Representatives like the one we’ve built and keep growing, any company can turn sales into a crazy fun ride that becomes more about staying on the road than getting there in the first place.
WEDNESDAY – Streamline Back Office Operations
Just a short distance away, at our summit headquarters in the Sundance Resort, our mid-week activity was Ziplining. We love how analogous ziplines are to the way Boomsourcing streamlines business processes for our clients. Ziplines mostly exist just for fun, but even so, they are a way to get from one point to another much faster than with your feet. The view is exhilarating, too! It takes work to put the lines and stations in place, and you’ve got to have the right equipment and personnel to use them. Well, when we take on a client’s back-office work, it’s like we’re building and running a zip line for them to use, instead of hiking over mountains of paperwork themselves. It lets them zip from one company goal to another, faster and more enjoyably.
THURSDAY – Catch Your Big Fish
To illustrate the patience and skill it takes for your salespeople to land a big deal, we went fly fishing along the banks of the Provo River. Fishing is well-known for the persistence it takes in order to be successful at it. Fly fishing, in particular, with its elaborate lures, shows the value of attracting your target with the most effective strategies possible; the right ones for that specific kind of fish. That’s how it is in sales, too. If you’re trying to land a deal with a specific client, you’ve got to speak their language, and you’ve got to stay in the water until they bite, and the deal is closed!
FRIDAY – Target The Right Market
We decided to close out the Scaling Smarter Summit with clay pigeon shooting at Wasatch Wing. There’s almost nothing more important in business than knowing who your customers are in the first place. There’s too much time and capital at risk to waste any of it by aiming randomly and seeing if something sticks. It’s essential to focus on your real target, and track them, before smoothly and confidently pulling the marketing trigger. You’ve got to take into account the social winds that might otherwise cause your strategies to fall short or sideways, too. It takes some skill, but the results are worth the effort!
